This is fone. Your behaving as if this is county league racing championship. They really need to learn to rub their nuts. Hello and welcome back to another episode with Fon Fan Fiction. This week it's the Monaco Grand Prix, the race that everyone waits for. We are your hosts. I am a Kash and I'm sorry, and let's get into it. We come back to the Monaco Grand Prix after missing last year, so it's all the more exciting this year, and it's been. It's been a great race and amazing qualifying. Controversial I felt. I have to say, I felt like I was back in two thousand and six. It was a red car, it was a soft stopped car. So, yeah, well, you remember that right. Why cant you make just parking his car in Rascars and, you know, trying to block his rival? That's Alonso. Yeah, getting a better love than him, though. I have to hand it to Le Clerk, his disciple, let's put it that way. He learned it better right, because he crashed the car rather than literally parking the car at Roscars, making it less controversial. That was the mast, you know, Ferrari master plan all along. So I think, like Ben to thought back. Went through red for our archives and it was like, if we get a pole strategy, be like just move to plan B, crash our car, will fix the car later. Yeah, they it was, you know, the perfect Ferrari plan. I feel that Charles was probably in the mindset that, you know, he had nothing to lose as such, and he had already had the fastest lap. He probably was pushing it right over the edge and he did go over the edge and here's but, but, yeah, so I think he knew that he had nothing to lose and yeah, event for it. What's ironical is like most of the times when we say you have nothing to lose, it's actually true, like just go for it. What's there to do? In this case he had everything to lose, because they still don't know what what's wrong with the car, or at least they haven't made it public yet. At the time of this recording. They thought it was that drive shafts, something the it's the the gear box, but they don't know. And what ended up happening for our listeners years is they he never started his race. So the first time I saw a DNS in the table I was super confused. When I turned on the race rail like and seen twitter or any news when I woke up and like I went straight up tune on the TV and I hear that the commentators are saying that he wouldn't be...

...starting. I'm like wait, what's going on? But I think that was good for Carlos because I think all the resources, it was like all had hands on deck for for Carlos, because everyone was focusing on his car. He was having a splendid day because of that. P to an amazing place to be for a Ferrari that, you know, wasn't even looking promising before. Oh Yeah, and you know what I'd really appreciate about sciences performance today was that it's just the four threes right in a new team. He is not used to this car at all and he has gotten so comfortable in that. And Yeah, P to is just spectacular from him and given that you know how where Ferrari was last year, it's it's very difficult to even imagine that they would be comfortably and PTO. Yeah, so that's that's really awesome. Yeah, I think for Ferrari it's definitely a good comeback. If Carlos continues to perform like this, he's gonna have to start learn some Italian words. That sier Gutsy and whatever we tell used to say on the radio. He's forgotten his smooth operator. But we did see a shade of it, I think, like when he was being interviewed before the podium. He was asked how was it and he said be me to yeah, that was easy. Just a glimpse of far smooth operator there. I think I remember him also complaining, or not complaining, but like just gribbing about boat as slowing him down sometime during the race. Oh, yeah, that was that was really funny. I mean he came on the radio and, like you know, he's basically like Botas is holding me up and yeah, that it's it's so ironic that a Ferrari was saying that about mercedies if you really consider what happened last year. Right, it was. It was an amazing race for Ferrari. I think it's the curse of Monte Carlo for for Charles that, oh, he's easy yet to finish a race here, holly yea, and not just like you know, win or something, he hasn't even finished a race. That's something really insane and to think about it like he's he's like born and bought up in in Monacco. That's literally his home race and he hasn't even finished it. And Yeah, it's it's weird, I feel. I really imagine if, if you know, fraddy gets back their pace and you know, they gave Charles a championship winning card and still he wins the championship but still never finishes in one Naco. I mean that's that's the most funny part, which you mentioned right like it's his home track. It's like...

...you're playing hide and seek with your friends in your house and you're the only one who keeps bumping into the furniture, like this is my house, Bo can. This happened to me and well, I used you know, that kind of played into science has hands and he landed right podium. So you know, that's that's great, though I think a couple of people were really missing the podium today. Nyeah, do poor vote as towards it. Definitely was a Mercedes P to. If not be one, give please. It's about as but that I think. I think. I think toto was just pissed with the way Hamilton was performing and it all came out on board as like, how dare you? How dare you? How dare you? You know, to me it seems like, you know, the parents are fighting and like they're like really having, you know, issues with their marriage, and basically the parents bring out all their frustration on the kid, the kid being Bot as. When I he was having a stunner of a race. Not a great start, I mean not a great start from a position advantage point of view, but his his ray start was actually good. It's just that the brilliance of Max that he, you know, part his car facing towards the race line, knowing that boat has actually had advantage because there wasn't a p one car in front of him and he could have gotten ahead of him. It was just Max's brilliance that prevented boat, as from you know, taking that lead. But nonetheless he had a great start. He was chasing Max down. There was a good chance that he could have gotten a position ahead of MAG's if the strategy would have worked out fine. And ironically it was the strategy that didn't and that pit stop. Oh yeah, that's weird reason for finishing a race like, you know, like rather than not finishing the days I was seen it was so funny to watch life. I was so confused, what's going on? At one point I felt like, you know, the pit crew member basically just was angry at boat as or something. He's like, you know, I'm not going to change it. Yeah, I remember seeing it and it was like he's there, the clock sticking and I'm like, okay, something's wrong, poor boat as. He just has a very bad but stopped on an amazing race. And I'm like, okay, change it, change it. One Minute, change it, and then the commentators say they are not able to get the nut off and I can see this guy fumbling with, fumbling with this gun and I'm like get another gun, and by the time they get another gun they've already rubbed with the thread of I'm like this is this is f one. Your behaving as if this is counting league racing championship. They really need to learn to...

...rub their nuts man man, and this two from a team like mercedies, right like they they are seven times world champion. Think let that sink in. You know, though, something like this kind of shows how much of advantage mercedies had even ere. Yet it's not like Mercedes never makes mistakes. They have made blunders even before. But it's that you know, as she had talked about sometime earlier as well, like we were just joking about it, that Hamilton finished the race on three tires. But that's the thing. You know, they have such a huge, or rather have had such a huge competitive advantage of our other things, these issues never came to the forefront, but I feel that since red bull has a really competitive card, we might be seeing this more often, because think about it, like, you know, yeah, have you ever seen Hamilton being piece seven and qualification it? It was really weird to see that. I was super confused what's going on during qualifications and, to be honest, at also shows very evidently that, you know, even though they are seven times world champion, they are not able to handle pressure that we and they are just like any other team when it comes to handling pressure. Because, and that's so evident, it Hamilton too, because twice or thrice he came on the radio being the complaint box that he is, and what pisses me off with him is that if he's doing good, you know, he just has one sentence for the entire team and wants to take all the praise. But as soon as things start going wrong, he just wants to push the blame away. I mean, Dude, you are not even able to get past ghastly cash. Yeah, that was pretty odd. I mean the way he was complaining pretty much throughout the race, after the pitstops. I mean I kind of understand the frustration that. You know, basically what happened was, if you saw that he was trying to play it safe at the start of the reason, like see if his tires so that he could go longer and do overcut and ghastly, but I think mercedies decided to do an undercut instead and so kind of his efforts of saving the tires went to way. So he was a bit frustrated. I can understand that. You know, as soon as he came out of the pits he was complaining, but that complaining went throughout the reason. That was quite annoying. Where you honestly to watch? I don't know. But yeah, as you said, like you know, he I've seen this often that whenever things are not going his way. Yeah, he kind of turns into, you know, a complaint box. Yeah, made benefit turned out to him. I was gonna give I didn't. I was gonna give him, which is the fact that you're somewhere in pease even, you know, if you are the driver of the caliber that has won seven times,...

I expect you to, you know, show that even on a track like Monico. But okay, I agreed that you can't be on the podium, but you know, at least gain those positions and be somewhere so that you know you proved the driver that you are. It was just, you know, boring seeing Hamilton the way he was yesterday. Yeah, that's that's unfortunately. You know, I was kind of sad in the sense that I was hoping to see a much spicier race in the front, because I was hoping that, you know, first of us, Charles and were stopping, would be going at it. Yeah, but unfortunately that didn't happen. And even during qualifications I was hoping that Hamilton would at least be heard of something, because, I mean, I completely expected that from him, very honest speaking, because you know, this has happened in the past as well. A lot of times I've seen this. Hamilton Lake really doesn't show his cards right up till q three. Yeah, does go slower and you know, he generally puts in his fastest lap only on the last lap of q yeah, so I was completely expecting that, but I was just really confused what's going on, and around Qtwo to I think, like he was somewhere up like first four. I was like, okay, he's got the pasties is not showing it right. Yeah, but he just missed out on it. But for me, I think another driver of the day was gastly because driving that Alpha Taury he he just did. It was a comeback race for gastly, for definitely, because he was able to keep keep mercedies and Hamilton at bay for I mean half, more than half the race. I'll beat he had somewhat of fresher tires, but still. I mean you're Hamilton, your mercedies, you have the fastest car on the track. Monaco is probably not your strong suit because you know you're more better on the straights, blah, Blah Blah. But yeah, ghastly keeping mercedies at bay. It was just splendid to watch. Yeah, and I'm kind of glad that finally ghastly had a good race because, yeah, I feel Alpha Tory in general was not having a good time till now. This might just be the race where things start turning for them. So yeah, credit, credit to gether on the other side. I expected much from Sono that too, but there wasn't much. I mean not that he had a bad day or a good day, he just wasn't feeling it right I felt. So yeah, I mean I would say it was pretty much a bad day faction. Yeah, I think it was a day where, you know, one of the drivers was having a splendid day whereas the other wasn't. And we've seen that with Mercedes, we've seen that with Alpha toaury. It was also interesting to see a team like McLaren do that. I feel so gutted for Daniel Ricardo. Man, seeing a blue flag on your own teammate. I can't remember. I can't remember I've ever seen that, but damn, O, come on, Dude, first happen. Has Been doing that for a while now. O, Damn, that was dark true. But yeah, either way is that was a very weird thing to see and you know, Lando laughing. Ricardo, I was really shocked about that. I mean not just that, the fact that your teammate who is, you know, junior to you as such at least. Yeahpot and yeah, and the person of Ricardos Colorbird, who has gotten two pools at monaccoon one race as well, and talk to if you remember that race. He had won it with some damage to his mguk or something, and that was a brilliant rees. That is done. That was it was quite sad to see that man, he's called the King of Monacca, right, like, yeah, celebrated there as a race winner here. Yeah, it just hurts, and I I mean again, I'm going to give benefit of doubt to Lando. Where he waved in courts, he was probably saying, dude, I feel for you. Yeah, wasn't actually a wave, but I mean we are, you know, gossippy people. So that you know...

...what Lando waved passing record. You can think about it the headlines on the museum. But like driver weaves as he laps his teammate, snobby driver waves as he laps his team man. Yeah, rubbing salt on his boot. He should have also shown a middle finger, like by get last, stay back. You wanna be my teammate, stay back. Yeah, Wa's My red end I have a new contract. You don't. It would be so funny to see how this is. There is so for folks who don't know the context, there was an episode where Ricardo was on top gear and Richard asked him, I think it was Richard or richerimy Clarkson asked him. Someone on the audience, sorry, someone in the audience, asked him, how does it feel to see the back of Lewis Hamilton? And and he raised a middle finger, saying Fu q or something like that. Why? My question to him now is how does it feel to see the back of your own teammate, Lander Norris? But yeah, overall, I think like Ricardo was just having a poor day to see even the fact that Kimmy r I can in overtaking him from pit stops. Oh yeah, that was that was quite weird, right. And I was surprised that Alpha overtook a McLaren first of all, and though I mean it was only possible in the pit stop, as it was Monaco, as everyone yes, you can not overtaken Monacco, and that's what happened in the race, right, like pretty much all the overtakes that happened did happen in pit stops and yeah, that's where kind of races were all, you know, positions were gained. That was straight through strategy and I think red pool had a really good strategy. Right. Yeah, I think red bull strategy was exactly what mercedies had a race before. It was well thought out, well planned, taking advantage of the situation in that sense that they got pressed so up, I think. But as was flying way down behind Hamilton at one point in PA P nine, something like that, and then, and I remember him seeing p one, I mean he he again went for the same old fact that I'm just going to keep running, these tires are love me, which worked out very well because if I remember this right, and Sarten carrying, correct me if I'm wrong here, I think Max pitted, which let pheres go ahead. So for...

...us was then the leader of the race and then, because he was a leader of the race, he had that free year to cut through and gain more distance with everyone behind. And because red will knew that he has impitted, there was always this non fact that masses Max is still the actual reader, but pere as has this advantage, do you know, pop up somewhere between Pfi P six, right, and that was like you know, brilliant race by Perez, because he is known for his start management skills and he completely proved his worth today by maintaining the stires and, you know, staying out so long. And the best part was that during the start of the race, I did not think that he would be within in the top five at all. Yeah, and it was just surprising to see him, you know, go up the board through the race and even actually when he was at Ptwo or Pone, I was not quite sure that he might end I felt that he might end up behind Hamilton somewhere. Yeah, but he really capitalized on that situation. He knew that he had to keep the tires still, you know, later on and push everything then and get in some time. So, yeah, what does orders great? There was like, you know, with you on that exact thought, because I think race start he was behind Hamilton and as like again, red bull is missing this second driver in front of Hamilton to hold Hamilton back, or you another second mercities back. Yeah, and then the whole tables are flipped in favor of red bull and I'm like this is just two brilliant the other fun part for me personally was as soon as Perez pitted and he came out, he was in front of Hamilton and Radio Teire. Is Hamilton that you know, Perez is in front of you, and Hamilton start scrapping again. Oh the hell is Perez in front of us? What are we doing? Oh yeah, that is really er use. Fuming. He was like, you know, how can this happen as like does? Yes, both red will there no, but that kind of shows right, you know, red bull made the right choice by going for Perez, because he is pretty much exactly fitting into the shoes of the person that they need. Yeah, he's still a little missing out on what they need, but he's almost there, I feel in the next two or three dass he would be much more comfortable in the car and would be consistently, you know, right there on p four or pthree positions. Yeah, if Perez hadn't performed the way he did, you know, combined with race engineering and the strategy, red bull today wouldn't have been top constructors that they are just by think one or two points that they are right now. Yep, just so in. But yeah, and I honestly feel I might, this is my honest opinion, that I feel boat as is actually...

...should be the driver of the day, because he sacrificed his entire race just so that's get to see some competition against mercedies. Oh, this is the reinventing boat as that I totally got his reinventioned wrong. Man. Okay, I like this new movie. I think as part of his reinvention he should also crash into Hamilton atxpen. But but the strategies were on point right, like the strategies were totally on point. Ashton Martin was the other one getting it so absolutely on point and correct. Absolutely. Yeah, I mean Aston Martin had wonderful day to day, like I feel that in at the start of the race it didn't feel like they would be anywhere because Betty was, I think we're P eight. I think he seven or PA. It wasn't a q tw Yeah, and now he did get into q three. I think this was a second race, getting in to q three, which, oh, yeah, and stroll was somewhere even further back, like fifteen or something. And Yeah, it was really awesome to see that. They completely managed to attire so well. Wet will completely proved his worth. Has Experience kind of showed in the race because Monaco is a very demanding track and yeah, jumping four positions up was, you know. I mean obviously one of them he got for free because of both has sing. I mean, it's not motuses fold, but whatever. But still, you know, jumping three positions is still very awesome thing to do. His Wow, like his, you know lap when right after like Hamilton and ghastly pitted, that lap was something he basically got some free air and yeah, just went for it. And Yeah, did you see? Oh yes, okay, this I we really need to talk about this year. So did you see that time when I, like wet will, just got out of the pits and ghastly and Hamilton were battling and at turn one when wet will just joined? Oh yeah, that's exactly when the whoever the race director was, decided that, you know, this is getting too interesting. You know, people might just turn up their TV's after this. So he was like, you know, change it if something else. Put some pouring shit out there so that people are not entertained. Yeah, yeah, you don't know what is happening, because I I remember my brundle and which is called the rest are someone. They were they were actually talking and they're like, Oh, this is an amazing spot where metal comes out of that track. He's bad. He's right. Besides ghastly, and we don't get to see it. And's true. And...

Stroll and that happened again because they were showing, I think, strolls, but stop. Yeah, no, they were they were showing something else. There was a replay. Okay, now that the replace back. Let's see how wet will actually over to Gastlee and we don't get to see it again. This is the second time they've done this. It's very weird. Do you know that? Basically, it's not a FI is fault here, I would say, because, yeah, Monaco has some weird deal with a fire where they have their own race direction for this race and I don't get it. It's very weird. There were a lot of issues with the you know, coverage. This time it was it just felt very amateurish. I don't know, hey, but I think the whole strategy thing and obviously veteran driving by whittle played out fine because at least he was able to overtake Gastlee and and ended up in p five amazing Zing points. I think he's super happy. He was having a great day. Say. Yeah, Aston Martin plays out perfectly well. You know, I'm glad to see wettil kind of getting back on his form a bit. I mean obviously this is just the second race where he has had a decent performance, but if he continues this, I think Ashton Martin can, you know, claw their way up on the people as well to see points. I mean overall. Where did where did its stroll also end? I think he was a pight. I think both a p five and P eight. Oh, P Five and Oh, that's amazing points for for Aston Martin. I think they will shoot by a big margin there. I think the other good part with a few of these other teams also is that, you know, Geo were Nazi finished ten. There was such an amazing battle happening for position nine between Okon and Ger not see, and I have to hand it to OK on. I think he's having a flying season so far. I just you know, I never paid attention to OK on as much before, as much as I've started paying this season, and it's just amazing to see him flourish and fight those battles. You know, we're not see again. I mean we've see we've said this in our podcast ourselves that Giovi Nazis always been someone on that track. Like you never paid attention to him, but it was amazing to see that battle nine and he's always been in that one second gap for so many Lapscudos to him for at least trying for that p nine there was an other good battle happening between Perez and Norris. I think Norris was slightly starting to struggle with stires,...

...whereas was trying to take that advantage, and I was so elated that. You know, hey, while norris couldn't miss out that, there could have been to red bulls on the podium. Just amazing coming. I want to want to come back to the section of TV coverage and race direction and FIA and want to mention that, for a track which has zero run off except one right, what was it? Did they hire a new guy just to sit at turn ten and be like, who's coming off of this? They handed out black and white flags left and right. What was happening at like somebody was sitting there with a sniper? You know, yeah, it is black and black, black and white. I mean it does makes sense because by cutting that chicane you can really gain a lot. But yeah, it just pretty weird, like everybody was getting warnings from their engineers that, you know, behave, otherwise you're gonna get a penalty. So it felt like, you know, like pair in school. Did you know for you know, getting a note from the teacher what Massipin got it? Not? Has Got it? Those one many dude. I think Sonoda got it. Schumacher got it? Oh, yeah, shumaker talking about Schumacher own. No, probably take a few minutes for Hars as well. You know, we've sort of joked that we're going to see a few incidents with Nike it, which there weren't, although I'll give it to you that I did think Nikia crashed during quality, but only to find out it was shumaker. I think he didn't hear his dad's words correctly that he had a park it, not crash it. But yeah, but they both finished the race. I think schomaker does show that, you know, good racing skills were I think lamp one ray start, was it? Where he overtook Nikita on the on the main you turn the slewist point on the yeah, so nothing, nothing to be spoken about and talked about with Hass over there but I think nonetheless both drivers finishing on a difficult track with us with an overtake, good weekend for us, I'd say. And considering the fact that they have out it said that they're not going to work on this car anymore, I feel they are going to have a terrible time through all the races. I feel yeah, of them just finishing the races not being you know, a lot two or three times would itself be a very big achievement for them, honestly. Well, you know, talking about lapping cars it there was this one moment where it really felt like, with stapping, might actually lap Hamilton at a point. Oh yeah, it is. It is so bizarre. Love to see...

...them. I think Hamilton basically got a call to box so that he could go for the fastest lap and gain, you know, one point away. Yeah, Max, and like he pitt it and he came out, and the interesting part, let me interject that. The the interesting part. There was, I think right then, so know that was having a fastest lap and because he was outside of the first ten position and points, he couldn't have gotten point for the fastest lap. So technically, yeah, engineer came sorry, he got out of the pit, you know, paid and he was, I think, on the preparation lap, you know, to like recharges batteries and everything so that he can go for that fastest lap. And Max was like approaching him because I think he had just lapped land stroll and he was kind of getting close to Hamilton a bit. So the engineer comes on and says that, you know, probably this is not the right time to go for the fastest lab because you might get blue flag, and obviously haven'ten was kind of pissed about something and that would have been so al this that would have been the cherry on top and we just missed that. Yeah, then I wouldn't have cared if hammings the championship, and now I've seen everything in my life. Yeah, and I think, you know, overall, monacco generally is a very boring Greece, honestly, and this time it was a lot more interesting. Yeah, there was not a lot of action on the track itself, but you know, there was some great strategies and play and there was, you know, a lot of twists that were going on, like Charles not starting and a Ricardo getting laughed by his seam mate and stuff. And yeah, it was Max's weekend and, like, he was just amazing. Yes, that's about it. There's there's nothing much to be said about this race, so let's call it a day and until until the next race, which we meet a week after now and Baku. That's all from a fun fan fiction. These are your host signing off. Bye Bye,.
