Welcome to the second episode of Fan Fiction podcast. First episode. If you've not checked it out, go check us out on your favorite streaming platform. We are out also on Youtube. The first episode, our pilot episode, was about the year twenty twenty, the unusual and the usual things that happened in that year. Today we are back. I'm your host, our cash and I'm sorry, and we'll be talking about liveries in two thousand and twenty one. Every year these teams come out with new designs, new colors, try to be creative, and that's what we're going to talk about. How twenty or twenty one is what we think about these libraries. What's change, what's not, and walk you through our thoughts. Before we begin, Sarah, I think we should spend two minutes on the legend that has passed away to his back, Murray Walker, although not from our timeline, this guy has been a legend. We've seen his videos, his comic timings, is enthusiasm as an f fun Fan. No one can deny he's been one of the greatest commentators. The iconic movement with Damon Hill crossing the finish line, him speak in continuously for two minutes, only to end his commentary by saying, I think I should stop now because I've got a lump in my throat. I've never seen, I've never, I've never heard a commentator say that. He's also being cowirky in his sense of introducing Murrayism right, because he's he he gets so involved in his flow of talking that he forgets what he's saying and it's just your enthusiasm flowing out. And I remember this famous interview with Bernie a Christon where he ends up asking him a Berney, how do you feel about buying mercedies, only to which Bernie replies I don't remember buying mercedies and he realizes what he's done. You are you are your words and your thoughts on Murray. Yeah, so I'm quite saddened by this news, though I never really got the opportunity to listen to him live in any of the races. But yeah, I've certainly heard his commentary in a couple of old videos of races and I love is enthusiasm and I can only imagine, you know, watching races while he commenting those and making every viewer lived through the race, putting each viewer in the driver's seat. Yeah, and yeah, I can only imagine. And Yeah, as you said, but murdriism. I mean he was different guy. Is Very surprising. Thing I recently learned about him was that he used to actually do his day job, while it's comment and broadcasts, and he was working full time right up to the age of fifty nine, when he quit his day job because he realized that he just cannot continue both of these things together without some dedication to the support. Exactly. Drink from that, exactly. Yeah. So, yeah, I'm it's a huge loss for the sport, though. I'm saddened by this and I hope that everybody remembers him and he lives on the sport in everyone's memories. Well, on that note, starting off two thousand and twenty one, the last past month we've seen teams come out with libraries, from exciting, some not so much. What are your overall thoughts? Well, this year there were a lot of teams which were having a lot of changes and I was quite excited to see these changes from these teams. Primarily to think...

...about there were two teams who were changing their name, one being raising point, which is now Ashton Martin racing, and the other being runoff, which is now going to be branded as a now groups sports brand called Alpeen, and both of these teams have really delivered. So yeah, I'm quite happy about that. Other than that, some of the teams which we know having surprised as much in the previous years and they still have it in this year. So it's a mixed bag, I would say. Yeah, same, same thoughts here. I was looking forward to, you know, the new teams coming in because new colors, new creativity that would come in with them. They have not underwhelmed me, at least. One thing I'd like to point out, probably for the Li listeners. Year is out of muscle memory, old habit, call it whatever you will. I may still end up calling these teams racing point or nat and I promise over time I'm going to I'm going to make it a habit to not call them that. So actually it's not just you. I mean I have, I have still heard so many commentators still refer to now Aston Martin as the old force India. So you just won, you just one ownership behind. It's one of those times where January you're supposed to change the calendar ear but you're still writing down the older ear. It's that place where my mind is right now. But picking of the first team in in following war was last year's constructive list. More cities. Thoughts on mercedies a Mer cities. Okay, so two thousand and twenty Mosties slivery was, as we had discussed last time, was quite a bit of a surprise, where they're changed from the silver color that they have retained for so many years and that gained in the name of Silver Arrows, and it was quite a drastic shift to move away from that color the moving to black, and I somewhat had my doubts that they might not continue the black, considering that how many years they have spent in in adopting the color silver. Though I'm kind of glad that they did not change it back to silver and they have retained the the red black color. So I'm quite glad about that, though I'm a little disappointed by the rere of the card where they have transitioned it a little into silver and the whole mg vomit that they have spread all over the red. So Weah, I'm a little unhappy about that. I don't know what are your thoughts about it? Yeah, I know that's true. I think. I think I was joking with you earlier, right, like it feels like they were. They were already stencils sliding down the body work with paint continuously dripping from the top, and then someone said, yeah, we've got hundred amj's. Yeah, for sure, let's leave it there. Oh, it just for a good measure. Let's put one right on top of the front wheels as well, so that come on the real let's heart. And to top it off, I think there is this eye catching red on the air intake, which is also a bit weird. Right. Oh, yeah, the red just sticks out like a short thumb. I can't imagine whoever came up with that design, though I think it's small good to do with sponsorships. They had to highlight their title sponsor, which is in yours now, and so yeah, so I think that's the reason why they have featured read at their air and take. So, yeah, a one thing which I wanted to talk about was, if you...

...remember, there was this stweet that the mercedies official tow to handle it tweeted out where they had posted an image of super zoomed photo of the car which featured the Red Star which they are added onto the car as a repute to nickeloder and it seemed like a really cool photo with, you know, black background and the Red Star, which really looked something out of star wars, and I was super excited about that. But I was knowing mercedies. I somehow had the feeling that they are not going to deliver on that. And and yeah, they didn't. But yeah, it's still not a bad card, being the champions that they are. There were a lot of rumors going on, and readit the red scene where people were talking about they might add some confetti to their card and celebration of the seventh champions. I love to see that. Man, it would be like a birthday party, going car with some womut of AMG on the back too much to drink. That seems like one heck of a party, I but we joked about this offline as well, right, like we were like, why not just give mercedies the driver's constructors championship with with Hamilton there and let's let the other race and let's move on, right. Yeah, yeah, I have. I wish that was not the case and we didn't have to talk about things like all right, let's not. And then move to red bull. All right, red bull, red bull. I mean, my my two cents there is there isn't changing anything. It's the same car. I think they're spending all of their resources, time and money into the the under the hold of the car and not what shows out. Yep, I mean red bull. I think they have spent years, you know, forming that brand and the way they have meat it will into this huge energy supports during conglomerate that it is now is solely on the basis of this branding that they have plastered over all series of sports that they participate in, and it's a very huge directory if you take a look at it, and I am not at all surprised that they haven't changed the livery, even the slightest, because that's red bill. They are a very lean team. They I think they have a clear focus of trying to win the championship and I think that's what they spent all their energies on. Right. Yeah, there isn't much to discuss about right bulls library it is. Besides some team changes and maybe some engineering changes, there isn't much happening on. Yeah, the one thing I really miss is the testing library that they used to have right earlier, if you remember that, they used to have these camel libraries. Yeah, and I miss I feel that it was a Mr Portunity. I understand that they want to continue their branding, but yeah, they could have done something special for testing, but I mean staying closer to last year's library. Next on the list is McLaren. Again, not many changes there, though. They're blues now, more eyecatching than it was last year as compared to the only orange. So the cameras are deaf. finitely not going to miss the blue, even if they miss the orange, because they are quite complementary colors. You know what I ort. I ether out with with McLaren. Oh Yeah, well, McLaren, I think it's pretty much the same looking card, with slight changes with how the blue is applied under the card. One change that I see is that they've added a small rainbow near the sideboard towards eat there, and I think...

...that's probably more aligned with the we races one initiative that Formula One has taken up. And obviously, if you've noticed, there are a lot more sponsors on the card this year. Zach Brown has been like a magnet for sponsors ever since he's John McLaren. I feel very soon they're going to run out of space on the car for sponsorships. That's true. That that knows, coming off of the front wheels on to the front doing seems like an excel column with just a list of spotsors on there. But I mean, well, they're bringing in money for new engineering developments, which been showing in the team's progress. So the only positive there's their teams climbing in constructor title. Well, that's going good for them, Yep, and you can see that. Yeah, the two thousand and twenty year result as well. So that's great for them. Yeah, right, like we spent, we spend some good time last episode talking about how McLaren has surprise us so much that we never even expected it to be, what, in the top four, and it's being there, sitting all along, and high hopes from two thousand twenty one as well, in which case coming down the list, Aston Martin, the all news leak, wettill, gotta see their Stroll Juniors. there. The colors been sitting very nicely. In my head, this is a new team coming back after a long, long time. I think what like a sixty one year hate is is is what some head it post called out, and I was excited to see because I in my head I don't remember how this team looked like and I was looking forward to the library. Thoughts on thoughts on Aston Markets. Oh yeah, Ash Marton, for me personally, was the most anticipated livery this season. Right meanly because of the British racing green. I've been a fan of the ast Martin Racing Yeah livery from the world and didn't championship, which has the British reason green with the line green accents, and that's one of my favorite liberties, even like when I when I play as at a courser competition, a might go to curl as Yeah Martin. We twelve with the classic British Green livery. So they did not disappoint about that. They came up with the British racing green, though one little factoid that I heard about was that they were planning on keeping the same livery as the WC Oh wow, which was lime green and British reason green. And it's quite actually evident from all the Merche that's available on the sites to buy right now. If you take a look all of the merch that they have has those lime green and British reason green colors, and rumors say that towards just two or three days before the launch, they struck a deal with with Bwt, the prior title sponsor for raising point. There would rumors going on that B wt was going to either work with hors or with Williams, but it seems that none of these deals came through and they came back to astartising point. And Yep, so that's how they put in the watermelon color back onto the car, making it a green and pink. Although that pink, they're right, I feel like it. I want to ignore it at one place, but I also don't want to because I feel like that pink, at least in my eyes, is popping out. A jet grain would have just been too monotonous, but for me that pink is adding that pop and I sort of like it on that front. Doing and all through running through the body. Yeah, this this cars. It's perfectly fine in my head. Oh yeah, I do like it as well. I had my doubts earlier on when I heard that it was most likely going to be green car with picking accents, because I mean, if you try to design...

...a car with those two colors, it's going you're going to have a very difficult time making the car look good. But Kudos to whoever designed it. It's quite tasteful, not too jarring its, it blends really well and also the type of paint that they have used, that kind of doesn't make the contrast pop out as much right for those two colors. So yeah, overall I'm a big fan of the East Martin Olivery, though it is really simple, but sometimes simplicity is the best, I would say. Yeah, down the list with Alpine, hands down favorite car this this season. Right. Oh yeah, I was. I was sort of also excited. I think they they did a mid vacation black who winter livery and then only to reveal this alpine blue design, and it did definitely did not disappoint, with that metallic blue on the majority of car and then the streaks are read on the bag. Just fantastic. Oh Yeah, I'm a big fan of alpeen's Olivery this year. I personally didn't also kind of like the olden run olivery. If you had noticed, the renolivery was is designed such that when you look at the car from the sides, it looks as yellow and yeah, you look at it from the top it looks like black and that was a pretty cool thing to do. And they have still come out with a pretty good, livery integrating the French flag at the rear of the car, if you've noticed. That's a pretty cool thing. The same thing, I think they wasn't done with the front wings. If you see there the three colors of the French flag, which they so it's so subtle but like and so creatively done. That looks quite clean. It's quite clean. Oh, yeah, for sure. Again, the choice of the paint that they have taken is really great. It's not completely in your face shiny metallic paint, because the colors that they have used, if that's what they had gone with, it might ha been a little too in your face, but I think with the Satin Matt Color that they've gone with, yeah, is is excellent choice. This complimented perfectly well with their driver's suit as which which also looks perfectly well in the blue and red. So rankful of full marks to I'll be in for all the job done on the looks. Yep, Yep, and I'm quite sure oo con most be very happy to drive the car under the French flag and have, like his card itself, to have the theme of the French flag. Down the list is, Ferrari, will we will come and address the green in due time because it requires its own two minutes of discussion. But, but, but, before that, there read the thousand race anniversary. That's goold area had last year gotten me excited with their dark red livery that they showcased and I was actually looking forward to seeing something similar this year. I like how they did bring in sort of that hand painted number on the back, with it's some tinge off that red still coming in from the thousand Grand Prix at Michello. But overall thoughts I've been still a bit man because it failed to hit that mark. Your thoughts on it? Well, Ferrari, no surprises that. It's a red card, so it's always done through the use, though I'm not to satisfied with the shade of the...

...red that they have chosen this year. The whole transition that they have done from the lighter shade in the Front to the darker moon is shade at the back. Yeah, is not to appealing. So I think that's basically a tribute to the thousand race slivery rate, but I'm how that it doesn't work for me. I would say the they should have either stuck with either of those two colors. It seems as if I think they're just trying to show that they are transitioning into a better car or something the previous gather they had. I'm not too happy about it, but yeah, it is what it is. Well then, continue with that note on the green blood, setting it right in the widdle. Oh Man, the green I have no words it. There's so many memes that I saw. So about the dream. I saw one where there was this Emogi vomiting over there and that was one of the really good means that as. So, yeah, I think that's what that's what's actually probably happened. Someone just spilled a green only to realize, hey, we've forgotten our response mission win or logo. You know what, let's just carve out some mw in there and make it sound like we were creative enough to put it there. Yeah, well, it was. It was. I feel it was a marketing ploy which completely worked in their favor, don't they wanted to be people to talk about it, and yeah, we are talking about it. So yeah, this is going to be an eye who to look at through the season. Yeah, YOU'RE gonna probably not notice the number and be like, Hey, there is a Ferrari driving with that green that I notice around the camera. Oh yeah, so, yeah, ray disappointment with the livery. I hope they are not a disappointed their card this year. Alpha Tower is next on the list. Your thoughts. They're sorry, INCA is this time they've partnered. We're with a fashion brand. I here and I might be butchering their name, but it's what Dyke Ritch. Nonetheless, it's a fashion brand. So hoping to was hoping to get some more fashionable in courts. livery. Thoughts on their libraries diving? Well, I think overall, Alpha Tudy is new team on the field. By name, it's a year old, in two thousand and twenty, I think. Basically tourder or so was renamed to Alpha Tory, which is new brand that read bull is promoting. That's their new fashion brand. So, considering Red Bulls policy with their liveries, I'm not surprised with the livery that Alpha he has come out with. It's pretty much the same as last year. They have just flipped the colors where the flip routeen white and blue. So no surprises that. It was a decent looking car last year. Still a decent looking card this year. The personally, I'm not that huge a fan of this livery as compared to the older torser livery. But yeah, not that. Yeah, I mean I saw a few post saying they had a reinvention of colors in two thousand and twenty only to be more fashion branded with two thousand and twenty one, and I sort of agree with that statement for two thousand and twenty, but I think we're twenty twenty one. They've gotten for a cleaner look, if you will be only positive for me here is they've got that nice looking Honda logo on the side. Hopefully that partnership continues and we get to keep seeing that Honda logo on there. Well then, I have got news for you, I hope you know about this, that Honda is pulling out out of their fun program right starting your two...

...thousand and twenty three. So Honda is basically pulling out and they've struck a deal with red bull to partner and hand of all of the Honda Power Unit technology to Red Bull and red will be basically taking over the manufacturing of their engine. Red Bull would basically become works team, which is quite surprising. Who would have thunk that red will will be your works team developing their own car, the rude engine, their own endynamics and every single thing. This is definitely news to me. Yeah, because I didn't not know about this, but it's good to see that it wills investing more into the business. They see there's good returns and I'm happy to see that. You know, going down they're gonna probably be self independent, probably hoping that you create more freedom of money and, you know, engineering resources because of no third party partnership. Only fingers crossed that they continue living up to, you know, the the expectations that Honda shown us in the last year and the quality doesn't die down. But this is this is exciting and a mixed reaction news, at least for me, and I'm hoping it's the same also for some of our listeners year. Oh yeah, and another thing. So in order to enable red bull to, you know, not lose standing while completing this transition, basically all teams had to come together to do a vote on this and this had to be agreed upon by all teams and basically FIA came up with engine freeze for them. So I think the engine freeze, which was, I think, going to begin from twenty twenty two, is going to, I think, begin at the end of this year piece. Yeah, so basically, teams would not be allowed to upgrade their engines, and I don't exactly know the details about it at the moment, but there will be restrictions placed on engineer mint and that would give red bill in the fortunity to slowly, you know, ramp up on the technologies that Honda has been working hard on for these past years and to develop all the machinery and equipment that they require to actually produce these engines in their factory and mild of schemes, in which case I think will definitely bring an entire episode towards the end of the season for what to expect as terms of changes for fone going ahead, and will end up covering this topic in there. So for listeners, stay tuned for that episode as well. Coming back to the list, we've now got Alfa Romeo again. It's online, with the with that Alpha Towery, that red bull, and not many changes still seems the same Old Alpha Romeo. If you were to tell me they've even flipped colors or done whatever, I wouldn't recognize because it took me five good minutes staring at this car to realize are there energy? Well, Alpha roome you, at least for me, has been the best looking car of for two thousand and twenty I have been a huge fan of the rare end of the car. I'm pretty sure a lot of her fans would conquered with me. Probably the read that Alpha Wom you use is is just very elegant. It's not in your face, it has just the right amount of shine to it and the white and the red trilly complement each other. Yeah, I feel that why change something that's not broken? So I completely happy that they did not move away from their livery and have just flipped colors and pretty much retained what they had last year.

Rate, they did flip colors right. Yes, something something they change there, and it took me good five minutes together that. Although what I do like about how they've done their coloring is how they integrate the car, the driver number, into their car right, the way they put their testing number, at least in the Stock Image livery for twelve from K Pizza's car. I like how it's not just a hand painted number, but like how it blends into the cars library. Yeah, well, it's still a good looking car and I hope they have a season just as good as how the car looks. Ok, yeah and fine. Let's move on to the next one in the list. That's has controversial team here. Well, Hass has been stricken with controversy for the past couple of years now. They have had the whole controversy of rich energy. Everybody kind of knew about that. They're getting a new sponsor this year. That's the Ura Kali, which is basically, I think, nick at the MAZEPINS Darts. So there were rumors flying around that it may feature the colors of the Russian flag. Well, there it is. What Hey, I mean by what about the cunningness that was depicted where you can't have a Russian flag because the Anti Doping Agency, which is after Russia because of those reasons, is going to come after you, but I I can change my logo color so that then you have to put those colors onto your car. Wait a minute. Coincidentally, it looks like the Russian flag. I had nothing to do with it. What Russian flag? I don't know. It's my it's my brand logo. Yeah, I write colors. Oh, yeah, I mean that was just it's like straight out of bond villains playbook. Change The logo of the company to the Russian flack colors just that they can beat that on the card. Good for them that they got away with it. So it's a from terms of how it looks. It's a okay looking car, I would say, nothing special. I feel it's a lot to move for them to go from the previous limit to this one. Yeah, I'm quite a neutral port their car. Yeah, personally I am below new tril is. I think all the efforts were spent behind how to get the Russian colors on there rather than how the car ends up looking. So my reactions of bit may about it. Down the list we've got our last team, Williams, the best looking car in my opinion. Thoughts on that, Sarah? I really hope that was a constant. I can either confirm or deny that. Yeah, well, Williams, I know what what they have done. It looks it looks like they have spent a lot of paint on the car. I don't know now, in all honestly, not a fan of that. Blue streaks converting to black. I'm pretty sure they've got some good reason behind the designs that went through the itrations and then this, this last one that came back. I I think I read somewhere it was supposed to bring back a look of Nigel men's's one thousand nine hundred and ninety two winning livery. Oh, but they could have a beautiful car. Yeah, they could have done a better job with those blue...

...streaks. Yeah, more than less than a reaction for me. Yeah, I mean the car. I feel, Williams, in terms of the livery, the peak was the two thousand and Eighteen Martini livery that they had. Oh, yeah, was really beautiful. I solely miss the Martini colors on the track these days. I really wish they hadn't gone from that to the to the to the cool gate that they had last year. Is Child painted livery that they have this y know what's happened to them right. Fine, so let's do this. Let's go down the list, continuing our episode ones tradition of rating things. But before we do that and reveal our top ten individually. I want to ask listeners to pause her comment down your top ten and then start playing and see where we've matched with our thoughts. It would be pretty interesting to see what everybody else is opinion is about these librities as well. Exactly, exactly, okay, what's my best and least favorite liveries? And let me go and the reverse order for this. So on. Number ten for me would be Williams. Not a fan of what they've done with the car this year. I wish they had executed the plan better of having the classic livery, because that was a really good looking car and the car that they're presented doesn't really resemble that one. So for that I put them on the last place. On ninth place for me is Ferrari, the primary reason being Ferrari has one of the most iconic liveries that they have had for several years and I'm not a fan of the gradient that they have added, for the two shades of Fred and the very ugly green that they've added at the top of the air. And take for that. They are number nine. Number eight for me is Alpha Torii. Nothing wrong with delivery per se. I personally am not that big a fan of this livery. To me it looks like somebody wearing a white tshirt and blue jeans and yeah, I kind of missed the tour Rossa colors. On number seven for me is hars again some points deducted for being unsportsmanlike and finding loopholes to introduce the Russian flag into the delivery. Apart from that, it's a pretty standard looking livery. For that reasons, it's number seven on my list. Number six, I wish I had placed the team higher up on the list, is more cities. I am a huge fan of the first half of the car. I would get ten out of ten and then something goes terribly wrong at the rear, and for that reason it's number five on my sorry number six on my list. Number five would be McLaren, pretty similar to what they had last year. The PAPAYA orange is one of my favorite colors on the track, though I'm not that big of a fan of the blue on the car. I really love the older Mersities livery that they had, and I think back in two thousand and eighteen, which was pretty much just Papaya orangeine black, which looked really good. Our number four for me is Red Bull I've been a fan of that livery for years now. Ever since WEHTAL was in red bull, they have always had these colors. I will solely miss the day when those colors disappear from the track. Yeah, I for me it's it does fall the top five on. Number three would be Alpha Romeo.

...have been a huge fan of the Alpha Dromia read for many years. The Red and white combination is simply beautiful, very clean design and very elegant. A number two is definitely Aston Martin ry thing. The return of the British racing green back on the track is a huge plus for me. The color looks beautiful. Given the constraints that they had with their sponsorships, with Bewt, where they had to have the pink colors on the car, they have done a beautiful job of integrating the pink with the Green, which, to think of it, are really complimentary colors and they shouldn't go together. Will and the top of my list, as I'd mentioned earlier, as well as I'll be with the beautiful satin mad blue and the integration of the French colors, French flat colors at the rear. I'm in love with that car. What about your cash. Definitely my the reasons are pretty much similar to what yours are and what we've discussed throughout the episode. That talk that the ten spot goes to Williams for for all those reasons. After that is has because of all the controversy and the flat paint and anything that's on there after that was at eight for me as McLaren, only because they didn't change things much. They orange dead catch my eye, but there wasn't something extraordinary that I liked about it. It could have gone up their list. But yeah, that the other car is called. I a bit more above McLaren. At position seven is Ferrari, sort of like that thousand year thousand race color that they've brought in. If I just keep a hand over my eye to ignore the green, I'm fine with the car. I would have just hope to see the prancing horse a bit more, a bigger branching horse on that car, but well, I'm fine with it. Next up the list for me is Red Bull. Why chaine, something that's been working for years. I love that ideology. The car looks good and a comments there. That list is Alfa towery. I like I like the change, the flatter look with it is the fashion design brand sort of coming into do those minor two weeks. So that's that's sitting for me. At what number five? Four is MRK, because I do like to see a black car on that track. I did think about AMG spilling on the back, but that car is always on the front. The cameras these days don't show that car much, so I get to see only the friend of the car and I'm fine as Hamilton fanasis these in position one. Exactly right, you're always saying the friend of the CAR, so I'm fine. At spot three is Al Fare Roomeo. That car is conflicting in thoughts because they don't change much, but whatever is on there is just so sleek looking and so rich looking that I just love that thing. Second spot goes to Aston Martin. No points for guessing. I mean they've done anentable this job with green and I just like that streak of red on the front wing going all the way to the bag. But top of the spot goes to Alpine. I just love that mixture of blue and red and that car just looks amazing. It feels like it's going to be a bullet going through the racetrack and I hope it performs that way to yeah with that, folks, it's time to end this episode. We're going to come back next episode talking about the pretesting season, which is already being...

...in news so much. We'll collect our thoughts on it, come back and share it with you all.
